DANCE from Austria
Leading: Hermann Haertel, Simon Wascher; playing Johanna Kugler, Philipp Schachner, Hermann Fritz
For all those interested
The leaders will learn tools and tricks to improvise with traditional material to music out of austrian manuscripts. The danceform is called Wickler, which is also nowadays danced in Pinzgau.
The leaders form the formation Tanzhausgeiger Trio. They play traditional Austrian dance music, primarily improvised musical types such as Jodler, Ländler and Schleunige. These musical styles show similarities to the Polish mazurka, the Scandinavian ‘polish’ and the French ‘bourree’, mainly through their melodic and rhythmic richness and through their lively transmission in performance practice, through singing, yodelling and rhythmic clapping. And certainly by the dance, in which people naturally use their hands to clap and their feet to stomp.
At the festival, the Austrian trio will play with Michal Zak. Together they form a quartet accompanying each other, performing a variety of tunes in an attempt to show the specificity of their repertoire and the affinity with neighbouring musical traditions.
