Dance Workshop Express – Stomping

Embellishing of the dance with stomping used to be highly regarded in the oldtimey manner of dancing – someone who could stomp rhytmically in dance was considered a good dancer. This is going to be the topic of our express meetings. Against the common assumption women too used to stomp their feet. The dancers and musicians interviewed in the course of field research said it had depended on the girl’s temperament. For this reason the workshop is addressed to boys and girls, who have mastered enough the mazurka rhythms. Stomping often depends on the dancers’ personal likes. Some stomp their feet in strictly defined moments, others more spontaneously, just to let off steam. Stomping can be done while spinning and adds to the energy of the dance or while changing the direction of the spin, in one place or along the way. Accentuated steps and stomps are defined by the number of the tappings. There can be single taps, double, triple, quadruple, fives or whole series that sound like a drum. The workshop will teach stomping techniques from Radom and Opoczno areas.
