DANCE from Belarus

We will learn polkas and figure dances from various parts of Belarus, dancing in twos and in circles. We will end our workshop just like a traditional Belarusian rural dance – with an improvised polka.
Bring enough water to drink and wear comfortable shoes. For men, we suggest flat soles with the so-called “slight slip”. For women, shoes with small heels.
Alena Leshkevich is a folklore specialist, she conducted field research in various parts of Belarus (mostly in Polesia and the Dnieper region – in the southern and eastern parts of the country), and in Podlasie and Kujawy. She is interested in yearly rituals, ethnography of the gentry, dancing and singing.
