DANCES from Belarus
Led by Hanna Kidron (dance, singing, drum); Przemysław Jarosz (violin) accompanying
For all interested.
The dances we will be learning were played in Belarusian towns and cities in the first half of the 20th century. The atmosphere of the towns, as well as the music and dances were heavily influenced by Jewish culture. We will bring the old atmosphere back. We will also talk about how rural dances seep through to urban spaces.
We recommend – bring enough water to drink, an extra shirt, and comfortable shoes, flat or with a small heel. They should have a slight slip, like most elegant shoes do.
Hanna Kidron – dancer, comes from Minsk. Since 2010, she specializes in traditional Belarusian dances. Her experience also includes other styles, such as ballroom dancing, balfolk, and blues. Integrating techniques from different dance styles allows her to create optimal didactic methods.
Przemysław Jarosz – musician, dancer, instructor. He has been practicing traditional folk dances for 20 years. He gained his experience in leading dance workshops in Poland, Norway, Austria, and Germany. Together with Hanna Kidron, he set up the band Kapela Po Drodze, combining three cultures – Belarusian, Polish, and Jewish.
