DANCES from Brittany, France
Led by sisters Klervie and Awena Guélou and Tomasz Kowalczyk from House of Brittany; Tangi Pensec and Julien Tymen playing
For all interested
We will learn the most characteristic Breton dances. The experience of a whole community pulsating together in endless lines of dancers is absolutely unique. The workshop program includes the mountain gavot, pach-pi, laridé 8 temps.
The traditional music and dance culture of Brittany can be experienced during the popular dance parties, organized both in villages and in towns, known as the festoù-noz. The Breton dances whose number, if counted down to the smallest varieties, exceeds 500 (!), are mostly danced in circles and in lines.
We recommend – bring enough water to drink, an extra shirt, and comfortable shoes, flat or with a small heel. They should have a slight slip, like most elegant shoes do.
The workshop will be led by Breton singers and dancers, the Guélou sisters, accompanied by traditional Breton instruments – the bombard (Julien Tymen) and the binioù bagpipes (Tangi Pensec). The workshop will be translated and moderated by Tomasz Kowalczyk, Brittany-certified Breton dance teacher.
