DANCES from Slovakia
The Dance House of Slovakia; led by Alfred Lincke and Antónia Rokošná; Muzička band playing
For all interested, beginners and advanced
We will learn dances from the Raslavice village in the Šariš region in north-east Slovakia. Basing on the examples dances of the old and new styles (krucenas, csárdáses, polkas), we will see how the dance language of the village changed over the years. We will also explain, how the new music and dance trends influenced and changed the old ones.
We recommend – bring enough water to drink, an extra shirt, and comfortable shoes, flat or with a small heel. They should have a slight slip, like most elegant shoes do.
Alfred Lincke – expert in the field of Slovak folklore and traditional dance, deeply engaged in promoting and preserving Slovak folk traditions. Leader of the Tancovadlo group, dance house teacher, co-organizer of events such as Rozhýbkosti, Krpčekovo, Tatry v kroji. Member of program boards of important folk festivals Myjava FF and Východná FF.
Antónia Rokošná – she has been dancing traditional dances since she was three. The ones especially close to her heart are dances from eastern Slovakia, where she comes from, and the dances of Slovak and Polish highlanders, since her life and dance partner of eight years is a highlander from Zakopane, Poland. In the past, she was a member of folk groups Hornad from Košice and Hojana from Žilina.
