DANCE from Ukraine
Led by Serhii Postolnikov and Kapela a’Postola.
We will “get to learning” the kozachok dance, which is considered the main and oldest dance in Ukraine. It can be danced both solo and in pairs and even in threes, as system dances such as: verbunka, orlytcja, obrucz, metelycia, hrechanyky. Each dancer demonstrates his or her skills, sometimes the dance turns into a competition where participants want to show their very best side.
Other figure dances have been created from elements of the kozachok, which we will explore as we go along and learn. They are made up of different variations of steps, taps, turns and squats, so it will be a good opportunity to practise synchronising your body with the music, as well as trying to find your feet in different rhythmic challenges.
