DANCES from Upper Silesia
Led by Iga Fedak; Kuba Fedak accompanying
For all interested
We will learn about the steps, forms, and contexts of the dances and folk dance parties in Upper Silesia. Among the dances we will learn are the rainlender, the Silesian mazurka, the sroka, and the szpacyrpolka. The workshop open to people of all dance skills – beginners will focus on learning the steps and dance forms, while the advanced dancers can practice embellishments, work on their style, and focus on different variations of the dances.
We recommend – bring enough water to drink, an extra shirt, and comfortable shoes, flat or with a small heel. They should have a slight slip, like most elegant shoes do.
Kapela Fedaków is a family band playing traditional dance music from Silesia, and their original pieces inspired by Polish traditional music. The bands was founded in 2015 in Katowice, where the members come from. They often play in Silesia, for local audiences, to keep alive and popularize Silesian melodies and traditional dances, but they also perform all across Poland and abroad, including Prague and Budapest.
The band members are Iga Fedak (singing, drum), Kuba Fedak (accordion), Karolina Płachta (violin).
