DANCE – Dances from Biskupizna
Led by Grzegorz Ajdacki. Adrian Maćkowiak (bagpipes) and Małgorzata Szymankiewicz (violin) from Greater Poland playing
Biskupizna is a microregion in Greater Poland with unique dancing traditions. In many places in Poland, the order of dances used to be set in stone – in Biskupizna, this order is still very much observed. It goes as follows: wiwat, przodek, równy in one direction, równy in the other direction, siber. These are the dances we will be learning, possibly with an addition of a game-dance.
In Biskupizna, it is natural to dance in a circle. An interesting fact is that the wiwat melodies have not only duple, but also triple, or even mixed meters.
The workshop is open to everyone… who is not afraid to swirl, as this is one of the fastest swirling dances in Poland.
Instructor Grzegorz Ajdacki promotes traditional dances and regional games for children, youth and adults. He runs classes, events and dance projects across Poland and abroad. He also educates himself, travelling the country and learning from village dancers.
