DRUM The style of Stefan Trzpil
Led by Mateusz Dobrowolski
For all interested – drums and drumming sticks will be available for those who don’t have their own instruments
We will have a close look at the playing technique used around the village Mierżączki, Garwolin district, in south-east Mazovia, where the family Trzpil band came from. The drummer, Stefan Trzpil (1921-2000) had a unique, archaic style and is possibly the only drummer recorded solo by the Polish Radio. We will learn the key elements of his style – the finger tremolo, the basic drum hits, and the gallop in obers and polkas.
Mateusz Dobrowolski – musician, drummer, journalist, manager. Co-creator of the Polish-Belarusian band Hajda Banda / Гайда Банда. Lecturer of a traditional music school Duże Mazurki at the culture center in Prague, Warsaw, he leads workshops with participants from Poland and abroad.
