SINGING – Warm-up and Sing-up

A SING-UP and a WARM-UP, or how to get ready to sing. The body, the breathing, and the voice techniques are a never-ending subject – this short workshop can be treated as an introduction and encouragement for beginner and intermediate singers. We will be focusing on three areas:
1) body – waking up the body, enlivening and stretching it, making space for the energy flow.
2) breathing – we will be trying different breathing techniques to make the breath deeper and calmer, and to make breathing out during singing light and productive.
3) voice techniques – you will learn voice exercises that will help you sing with lightness all day long.

Olga Kozieł – she has been working with traditional music since 2005 when, for the first time, she heard the natural, unhampered, resonant, meaningful singing which enthralled her. Since then, she has been learning from the rural singers, listening to archival recordings, and participating in various singing workshops. She is fascinated by different musical cultures – she spent a few years visiting the Ukrainian and Belarusian Polesia, went to Russia, she is interested in the sound of traditional Serbian songs and their particular singing technique. In Poland, her heart belongs to her native Lublin region, and to the dark, deep, mysterious sounds of Kurpie.
