SINGING Songs from Dobrowody

We invite you for a workshop during which we will learn mono- and polyphonic songs from the village Dobrowody, Podlasie region – from courting songs performed by and for the maidens, through wedding songs that formed part of the rite-of-passage that opened the doors to the girls’ new, not necessarily better life, to songs about the fate of women, with all its joys and hardships.

Julita Charytoniuk – culture scholar, ethnomusicologist, singer, drummer, handicraft instructor. She learns from rural singers from Podlasie, Suwałki and Western Polesia regions. Vicepresident of the Stowarzyszenie Dziedzictwo Podlasia (Podlasie Heritage Association). Animator, event organizer, producer of traditional music records. As part of this year’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarship, she is researching the wedding rites in Podlasie.
