Spring SONGS from Podolia
Led by Iryna Klymenko
For all interested
In Podolia, vesnanky were seldom sung standing in one place – they were almost always connected to dance, accompanied by movement. The movement was symbolic, designed to speed up the sun’s journey through the sky and the growth of the plants. In the olden days, the songs were connected to the spring New Year. During the workshop, we will learn several songs from the repertoire made up of Iryna Klymenko’s own recordings from her field research in Podolia, in south-east Ukraine.
