Spring SONGS from the Polesie region
Led by Iryna Klymenko
For all interested
The workshop is devoted to Ukrainian spring songs – various vesnanky – girls’ spring callings, processions, and dances. In the spring in Polesia these thousand-year-old melodies were heard from all corners of the village, or both sides of the river. The girls rivaled to be the first or the loudest ones singing. They also prepared special lyrics to mock their neighbors. We will familiarize ourselves with the vocal techniques of Polesia (burdon, “hooing”), and learn songs from the recordings made by Iryna Klymenko during her trips to the Ukrainian Polesia.
