Tamburello

No musical bases are needed, same class for beginners and advanced students.
Rithmical concepts, variations, different styles and uses of the tamburello in south italian popular dances like pizzica pizzica, tarantella, scottish, valz and polka.
This workshop is based on simple exercises useful to get started with the italian tamburello techniques, and to be able to play different dances and music from south of Italy.
Each topic comes from direct experience, field recordings and playing with older tamburello player. It will provide a good mix of older way to play and new sounds of today’s popular music.
Main Topics: Differences between tamburellos, traditional and modern handle, main strikes for pizzica-pizzica, how to manage jingles, how to use left hand, how to play 2 and 3, how to play in a traditional “Ronda”.
Roberto Chiga: Percussionist, frame drummer, expert on Italian tamburello, specialized in ancient techniques of Apulia.

No signing up is required prior to workshops, except for dance workshops, which have limited admission. You can sign up through online form on the festival website.
