VIOLIN Melodies from Józef Zaraś
Led by Janusz Prusinowski
For intermediate players – you need to bring your own instrument and be able to learn a melody by ear and repeat it on the instrument
Józef Zaraś is one of the most famous violinists of the Radom region. His style of playing was among the most recognizable in the area of Przysucha. Together with the Nieznamierowice band, his wife, and a pair of dancers (one of whom was his son Marian), he was often the guest of the Dance House of Poland in the beginnings of its existence, in the 1990s. We became friends back then and, together with the Dance House band, we often came to Nieznamierowice to learn to play and dance.
During the workshop, we will learn a few obers and a polka from the recordings of Józef Zaraś, paying attention to his phrasing, embellishments, and ways of producing sound. We will also sing and tap out rhythms.
Janusz Prusinowski (born 1969 in Mława) – violinist, instrumentalist, composer, folklore researcher. Artistic director of the Mazurkas of the World Festival. Creator of many projects and musical events related to Polish traditional music. In the 1990s, he played in the band “Brotherhood of the Poor” (1993), and was a co-founder of the Dance House of Warsaw (1995), an environment that laid the foundations for the development of the traditional (folk) music revival movement in Poland. At the time, he was also the creator of an educational program for elementary schools called “Janko the Musician” (1996).
As a musician, he is a disciple of rural musicians: Stanislaw Lewandowski, Piotr and Jan Gaca, Kazimierz Meto, Jozef Zaras, Stanislaw Stępniak and many others.
