Diabubu

The Diabubu Band was founded in 2011 in Lodz by Bartosz Puliński and Jakub Stefanowicz – then still teenagers and neighbors who had been trying to play together since they were little. In 2014 they were joined by Jakub Korona, and the trio continues to play in this lineup to this day. This makes Diabubu one of the most experienced bands on the traditional scene, while still associated with the younger generation of performers. Suffice it to say that they first encountered traditional music when they were still in middle school, and already in 2014 they won the Baszta in the “Folklore Reconstruction” category at the Festival of Bands and Singers in Kazimierz Dolny.
They play melodies from the Rawskie land and the Łęczyca-Łowicz borderland – kujawiaki, kujony and kujawiony, polkas, oberki, mazurkas, but also urban tangos, foxtrots – including Jewish melodies. Their repertoire is most aptly characterized by themselves: “We like this music terribly, it is full of content, and at the same time economical in form, one could say – elegant.”
They learned directly from rural masters such as Zdzisław Majchrzak, Sławomir Czekalski, Czesław Kocemba, Jan Szymański, Władysław Piątkowski and brothers Wiesław and Janusz Rochala. They also used recordings from the archives of the Lodz Ethnographic Museum, Andrzej Bieńkowski or records published by Polish Radio and the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The band played to dance at such festivals and events as Mazurkas of the World Festival, Songs of Our Roots, Jagiellonian Fair and Tabor House Dance in Sędek, among others.
