Piotr Zgorzelski

He established and runs the first Academy of Traditional Dance in Poland with periodic classes held throughout Poland.
He has been involved in traditional dance for over 30 years. He learned directly from village dancers as well as from archival sources, developing an original methodology for learning traditional dance in non-staged forms, taking into account contemporary predispositions and skills, a generation deprived of live contact with folk music.
He is a co-founder of the Warsaw “House of Dance” Association (1994) and its president for several years. He is the author, initiator and organizer of cyclical educational and cultural projects related to traditional music and dance, of local and international scope.
Creator and promoter of a modern formula for dancing traditional dances known as MAZUREK FREESTYLE.
For nearly 10 years he co-founded, as bassist and dancer, the Janusz Prusinowski Kompania band. Together with it, he gave concerts and conducted workshops in most European countries, as well as in Asia and North America (including Carnegie Hall NY, Chicago Symphony Center).
He is the author of the project of online traditional dance lessons posted on the You Tube channel – Traditional Dance PL.
